Fundamentally

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

The term fundamental has taken on some negative connotations of late, but in reality all the term means is "the basics". If a person is wrong on the basics, there really is no sense in trying to go further, so a solid handle on the fundamentals of the Christian faith is in order for everyone.

To combat the inroads of liberalism, in the early 1900's godly men set forth a series of doctrinal statements trying to summarize what exactly the basics of the Christian faith are. The book was entitled "The Fundamentals, a Testimony to the Truth". The book is set up in four volumes with a total of 90 short articles on various aspects of the Christian faith. Some may not seem as important in these days, but on the whole the same basic doctrines that were attacked then are still being attacked today.
